This picture was taken at B'nai Torah Congregation in Boca Raton. Because this was such a small service we were allowed to take pictures of the Bar Mitzvah on the same day as the ceremony or service. As a photographer who is based in South Florida I find myself shooting a wide range of Bat and Bar Mitzvahs. Because a Bar Mitzvah service is a sacred ceremony photographers are not often allowed to photography the service. Many parts of the service are very quite and temple guests don't want to be distracted by a clicking camera. Because if this the Bar Mitzvah ceremony pictures are often taken on another day, often a Thursday. When photographing this Bar Mitzvah I wanted to use the natural window light coming in from the side of the sanctuary. To create an outside the box photo I decided to use the temple chairs as both foreground and background elements. I think the alternating pattern of the wooden chairs works well in this case.
If you are planning a Bat or Bar Mitzvah in South Florida then here are a few things to consider.
One day your Bar Mitzvah child is going to look through his Mitzvah album and remember how the ceremony and party unfolded, a good photographer should take pictures that tell a story, like a photo journalist. The pictures should include special moments captured inside the synagogue through the posed pictures, the cocktail hour and the late night of dancing and partying. Many years after the Bat or Bar Mitzvah it's important that your son or daughter, now a grown man ro woman can look through the album and still feel the emotion of the day.
B'nai Torah is one of the most beautiful Jewish temples in the Boca Raton area. What I like most about this temple is the fact that the grounds surrounding the temple are perfectly manicured and provide an great backdrop for a variety of pictures. Here is a link to a wedding that I photographed at Temple B'nai Torah Just look at how beautiful the grounds are. BELOW
