When Anna, (Jessica’s mom) told me her daughter wanted Vizcaya maternity pictures I was so excited.<\/span><\/h1>\n

If you are interested in taking maternity photography in Miami, you have plenty of choices. Given the size of Miami and the fact that you have Miami Beach, North Miami Beach, South Beach, and all the surrounding areas, finding a great place to take maternity pictures is easy. \u00a0However, one place is not to be overlooked. If you are not familiar with Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, <\/a>\u00a0let me introduce you to one of the most beautiful places for maternity photography in Miami. \u00a0I photographed these Vizcaya maternity pictures for Jessica and Michael at Miami’s most amazing location. \u00a0If you are planning a Wedding, Bat Mitzvah, Elopement, or need Engagement pictures, Family Portraits or in this case, Maternity pictures, having them taken at Vizcaya is a no brainer. \u00a0Located close to North Coconut Grove in Miami, a visit to Vizcaya will feel like a trip to a land far far away from the hustle and bustle of Miami and the surround areas. \u00a0For this South Florida photographer, a photo session here means beautiful picturesque views of Biscayne Bay, rock arches, walking paths adorned with exotic landscapes and historic buildings that all combine to become a photographers playground. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jessica, who is a fashion expert, knows exactly how to pose for pictures. She also choose the perfect Adrianna Papel<\/a> outfit for her maternity photo session<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

ABOVE: These two pictures were taken at Vizcaya’s Secret Garden. \u00a0Tucked away in a special location, this area is unique because of it’s coral rock formations that are perfect for taking interesting pictures. \u00a0The coral walls form an enclosed courtyard which makes for a private area. \u00a0The inspiration for this private location comes from old Italy and is one of the most visited parts of Vizcaya. \u00a0The stone arches and pathways that lead from the Secret Garden to the main gardens create a sense of mystery which draws visitors to this hidden location. \u00a0 Click here<\/a> and look for the red number 1<\/span> to see where these Vizcaya maternity pictures were taken.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here is a wedding picture which was taken inside the Secret Garden. \u00a0Secret Garden<\/a>\u00a0wedding photo. \u00a0Along the sides of the Vizcaya Secret Garden are staircases. \u00a0These staircases are located against the walls and make a great background for pictures. \u00a0The picture below on the left is the view from Vizcaya’s East Terrace looking into the Secret Garden. \u00a0As a creative South Florida photographer I love shooting through things. \u00a0This location is by far the best especially\u00a0if you are looking to shoot maternity photography in Miami. \u00a0 Vizcaya certainly satisfies that need. \u00a0I love images that have natural frames. \u00a0For this picture I laid on the ground and shot through the stone pillars into the Secret Garden. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Maternity
The two maternity pictures above were taken at two magical places in Vizcaya Gardens. As a South Florida photographer, I have photographed Weddings, Elopements, Engagment pictures, Maternity Pictures, Pre Bat Mitzvah pictures and more here. Being at Vizcaya will give you to feeling that you have been wisked away to an Italian wonderland. Parts of Vizcaya remind me of Rome, while other parts are more like Venice especially the Barge, although the view beyond the barge is of Biscayne Bay.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

ABOVE RIGHT: – There are so many awesome photo spots at Vizcaya, the picture above was take at one of my favorites. \u00a0At both sides of the main garden include walkways. \u00a0At the end of both walkways are small gazebos made of stone and covered with greenery. \u00a0This is just another of many beautiful photo spots. \u00a0As a South Florida photographer, I find that there are unlimited ways to photograph this area. \u00a0Here is a wedding picture taken at this location. Vizcaya at night.<\/a> \u00a0 If you would like to know where on a Map of Vizcaya where this location is, click here<\/a> and check out location number 2<\/span>. \u00a0\u00a0Bride and Groom<\/a> share a romantic moment in a hidden Vizcaya location. \u00a0Vizcaya closes to the public at 5:00PM which is a bummer for anyone who is visiting for a daytime photo session. \u00a0At night Vizcaya takes on a completely different look and feel. \u00a0If you are planning a wedding at Vizcaya there is no question that you will fall in love during your daytime site visit. \u00a0However, if you have the luxury of being a guest at a night wedding, \u00a0you will find that once the sun sets Vizcaya becomes a fantastic picture perfect location. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

BELOW: \u00a0Both pictures below were taken on the north side of the main house. Jessica standing alone shows Vizcaya’s David A. Klein Orchidarium in the background. \u00a0This location is another great photo spot that often gets missed by visitors who do not walk around behind the main house. \u00a0Because this part of the property is surrounded by the Main house and tall trees the lighting here is always soft and even. \u00a0One of the highlights of Vizcaya is the abundance of blooming orchids. \u00a0Vizcaya actually has a orchid program which was started by David A. Klein. \u00a0The picture on the left was taken at the stair case that leads to the second floor East terrace. \u00a0 \u00a0Both of these pictures were taken at the red number 3<\/span> on the Vizcaya map click here.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

\"Jessica
Both these pictures were taken at the north side of the main house. The fact that Vizcaya has so many walkways and staircases a it’s easy to create unique poses that look stunning. By having Michael sit on the rock railing I was able to position Jessica in the perfect position for this kiss on the cheek photo.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Styling and floral arrangements for these Miami maternity pictures was provided by the fabulous Anna Hess.<\/h2>\n

If you have never heard of Anna Hess, take note. \u00a0Anna is not only Jessica’s mom, she is also one of South Florida’s best wedding and event planners. \u00a0As a certified wedding planner, Anna is not just skilled at planning, she is also a talented event designer. \u00a0Every event I have photographed for Anna looked amazing. \u00a0I’m always in awe whenever I see one of Anna’s latest creations. \u00a0Check out this picture of a \u00a0surprised bride when she sees a flow of flowers spilling out of her vintage Thunderbird.<\/a> \u00a0Just one example of Anna, thinking outside the box. \u00a0 \u00a0If you love flowers, maybe you would like to tie the knot under an arch covered with beautiful colorful flowers. \u00a0Click here<\/a> to see another breathtaking design by Anna. \u00a0 When Anna plans a wedding or event she starts by learning all about her couple or client. \u00a0Once she understands their dream vision, her design team works to create the luxury wedding or event her clients imagined. \u00a0However, Anna doesn’t simply create visual magic. \u00a0She also manages all the other aspects of their event. \u00a0This includes, budget planning, creating realistic event timelines, and the all important to-do list. \u00a0The flowers in these photos were another creation by Anna. \u00a0She also provided the styling for these Vizcaya maternity pictures as well. \u00a0 You can visit Anna’s website here: \u00a0Anna Hess Events<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

\"Baby<\/p>\n

One thing to remember when planning a Vizcaya maternity photo session is to leave plenty of time. \u00a0Seriously this place is massive, \u00a0with so many awesome places for photography you will need at least two hours to cover everything. \u00a0I would actually say three hours is even better. If you plan on doing maternity photography in Miami and you find yourself at Vizcaya, keep this in mind. \u00a0The gardens close at 5:00PM and when they say they close at 5:00PM they mean everyone should be out at 5:00PM. \u00a0So start early and enjoy the grounds at your leisure. \u00a0 There is a huge amount to explore at Vizcaya. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Taking pictures on Vizcaya’s staircases is one of the best ways to showcase the vintage Italian looking grounds. With steps everyplace there are plenty of places to take a variety of interesting poses.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Our Miami maternity photo session lasted about three hours. \u00a0In that time we walked into the main entrance, around the north end of the main house. \u00a0We spent about 20 minutes taking pictures at the garden and stairs before walking up the stairs to the east terrace. \u00a0 From the east terrace we ventured to the Secret Garden. \u00a0At the Secret Garden we spend another thirty minutes taking pictures. \u00a0Then Jessica and Anna stopped to change outfits. \u00a0During this change I took Michaels picture, (check out Michael on the lower right) at position number 5<\/span> on the map, click here<\/a> and look for the red 5 to see Michaels photo spot.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Portraits
Beautiful backgrounds are every place at Vizcaya.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

As we made our way down the path to the south side of Vizcaya, \u00a0Jessica turned to me and asked to have a picture of herself with this statue. \u00a0These types of statues are located all over Vizcaya. \u00a0When Vizcaya was first build in 1916 a number of very prominent sculptors were hired to create some of the statues that are visible around the property. \u00a0One such artist was Alexander Stirling Calder<\/a> who’s statues were incorporated into Vizcaya’s Barge. \u00a0To see where this picture of Jessica was taken click the map of Vizcaya<\/a> and look for the red number 4<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"Walking
During our Vizcaya maternity photo session I wanted to take some pictures that show action. Along the sides of the main garden is a elevated path. This gave me the perfect vantage point to take this picture of Jessica and Michael walking hand in hand.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

The main garden is one of the widest open spots at Vizcaya. \u00a0It’s the perfect place for walking shots and other fun images. \u00a0During the day the sun usually hits this location and creates a variety of different lighting effects. \u00a0On this day it was somewhat cloudy which allow for soft even lighting in all directions. \u00a0To see where this photo was taken click here<\/a> and look for the red number 6<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Casual
Anna, supplied a variety of props including the flowers, picnic basket blanket and even munchies. All her props added an element of interest to the pictures.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

At the far south end of the property there is an open grassy area, this location was perfect for a casual picnic. \u00a0While Anna was setting up this enticing and romantic looking scene, I took pictures of Jessica and Michael at another location. \u00a0Incase you are wondering where this picture was snapped check out the red number 7<\/span> on the map, here.<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0Of all the places for maternity photography in Miami, Vizcaya is the only one the needs a map.<\/p>\n

\"casual
When we arrived at the Garden Mound, which is the highest point at Vizcaya the sun started to cast some rays of light through the trees. This was perfect for creating a backlighting effect. Jessica’s custom made EmbieBaby<\/a> dress looked glamorous when the sunlight backlit her dress. The action of walking combined with the more dramatic lighting helped make this picture look spectacular.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

Most of the wedding ceremonies I have shot at Vizcaya have taken place at the Garden Mound. \u00a0Check out the red number 8<\/span>\u00a0on the map here.<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0The Garden Mound is another one of my favorite places at Vizcaya. \u00a0It’s beautiful when looking in all directions. \u00a0These pictures were taken looking toward the south. \u00a0If you turn to the north you get a view of Vizcaya showing the gardens and the main house. \u00a0Honestly, just this one spot on top of the hill is perfect for an entire photo session. \u00a0Here<\/a> is another wedding picture which was taken inside the building in the background.<\/p>\n

These pictures are a result of Anna and her ability to select the best people.<\/span><\/h3>\n

In addition to being a top notch event planner, Anna Hess is also a master at putting together a great team. \u00a0The flowers were purchased from Jett Flowers in Miami<\/a>. If course Anna arranges the flowers and styled the picnic set up. \u00a0 Jessica’s hair was done by Melissa Horn at Cloud 10 Beauty Salon in Delray Beach<\/a>. \u00a0Jessica’s\u00a0flawless makeup was done by Courtney Christopherson <\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0If you would like to contact Anna she could be reached at (561) 573-8903<\/p>\n

\"Sepia
I captured these two pictures while Anna was setting up the picnic scene. These steps are one of the most photographed places at Vizcaya. The view looking up is just as beautiful as the view looking down. Check out some of my other pictures that include these steps. \u00a0Bride walking up steps to get married at the Garden Mound<\/a>\u00a0 This nighttime picture shows just how breathtaking Vizcaya looks at night. \u00a0This picture was taken on the steps but from the opposite side. \u00a0\u00a0Vizcaya engagement picture<\/a><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Given the fact that Vizcaya is such a popular and beautiful place, it only makes sense that I would work there often. \u00a0In the past, I have done a ton of maternity photography in Miami, however during my years working as a South Florida photographer I have taken many of my favorite pictures at Vizcaya. \u00a0At the bottom of this post I’ll include some links to my favorite pictures.<\/p>\n

\"Couple
This picture was taken along the walking path which leads from the Secret Garden to the main house which you could see on the right. Check out the map<\/a> and look for the red number 10<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

As someone who does maternity photography in Miami and the surrounding areas, I must admit I always love working at Vizcaya. \u00a0However, if you can’t make it to Miami for your maternity photo session, I can recommend lots of other beautiful locations. \u00a0Maybe you are in Palm Beach, and maternity photography in Miami is out of the question because of the distance? \u00a0Call me at (561) 737-5561. Bride and her girls at Vizcaya.<\/a>\u00a0This picture was taken at one of my first weddings at Vizcaya. \u00a0It’s a fun picture of the bride and all her bridesmaids. \u00a0As a way of making this shot more interesting, I enhanced the picture so that only the flowers are in color. \u00a0 In addition to the Secret Garden, Vizcaya has other more secret locations. \u00a0Inside the main house is this hidden Secret Staircase.<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 When photographing a wedding or event at Vizcaya, exploring inside the main house becomes another option. \u00a0While some parts of the main house are closed to the public there are still plenty of places to explore. \u00a0This double reflection image<\/a> was taken in an area at the center of the main garden. \u00a0 There is plenty of small ponds and small water falls around Vizcaya. \u00a0Our maternity photo session took place during the Covid pandemic and the building and grounds were under construction at the time. \u00a0However, even with the construction there were more then enough places too take pictures. \u00a0 Here is another one of my favorite wedding pictures from Vizcaya. \u00a0This one was taken at the base of the Garden Mound. \u00a0The brides expression<\/a> during the first look was priceless. \u00a0 This picture<\/a> if a recently engaged couple shows the main house in the background. \u00a0When it comes to engagement photo shoots, Vizcaya is one of the most popular places. Here is another engagement picture<\/a> taken at Vizcaya. \u00a0Last, I have photographed a large number of very elaborate weddings at Vizcaya, so many in fact that I can’t account for all the weddings in just one blog post. \u00a0However, this post would not be complete if I didn’t share just one more wedding post. \u00a0This wedding was supposed to take place at The Ocean Reef Club. \u00a0However, due to hurricane Irma it was moved to Vizcaya. \u00a0Check it out here: Lauren and Aaron’s Vizcaya wedding<\/a><\/p>\n
