I shot this wedding ring detail shot at the Four Seasons Hotel in Miami. I'm always on the look out to find something unique to photograph and I'll use my down-time to create something special. This South Florida wedding detail photo was taken during the dinner portion of a Wedding reception. Since everyone was busy eating and no toasts have started I figured that I could use this time to create a unique wedding photo. As a wedding photographer, I spend lots of time looking at the photography from other photographers. During my attempt to become inspired I see lots of the same imagery. Honestly it get boring, I see wedding rings plopped on flowers, rings thrown on highly reflective tables, rings placed in the heel of a brides shoes. That all very nice, and if you are very short on time and need to just take a ring shot then I get it. However, I feel that spending extra time shooting the wedding rings results in a rewarding photo. Yes, you need patience and a knack for creativity, but if you don't rush and think about what would be interesting you can be rewarded with a really interesting photo.
During the wedding reception I borrowed the wedding rings from the bride and groom, then found a quite place where I can focus on creating something unique and beautiful. Since I have experience with food photography I decided that this would be a unique image to create. The Bride and Groom were into Martinis so what a great idea to incorporate their favorite drink into their wedding rings.
Working as a wedding photographer in South Florida is always a challenge because of the huge number of awesome wedding photographers in the area. It's important to me as a Miami wedding photographer to come up with images that are different and get attention. There are awesome wedding photographers in Miami as well as other towns such as Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Coral Gables, & Jupiter. Given all the photographers a couple have to choose from I feel that I need to produce photography that really stands out from the crowd.
As I'm sure you could imagine I'm very picky about my work. When It comes to Bride and Groom photos, Engagement Photos, Family Photos, Wedding Venue Photos, I work very hard to deliver perfection. This also includes creative beautiful and unique wedding detail photos. Including Wedding Rings Shots!
Whenever, I'm shooting the bride and grooms rings I have rules that I feel are very important. The first rule is that you have to be able to see into the most attractive part of the wedding ring. For this detail ring shot that meant showing the diamond straight on. Often a wedding photographer will use a flash or light pointed directly at the diamond. However doing that will only create a hot spot in the stone. Since I wanted to shot all the diamonds facets I decided that the light should hit the stone from the side. A small white napkin sitting against a glass made the perfect reflector to side light the diamond. I also wanted the olives to point in a direction that played into this photo.
I thought that this was a great idea for a unique wedding ring photo.
Having worked as a Miami Wedding Photographer, I believe that it's important to be skilled in many different types of photography. Often I will find myself switching gears during a wedding and becoming a wedding photojournalist and then the next second, I'm doing fine portraits or casual posed photos. By having the ability to shoot different photography styles I find that I can photography a wedding that results in complete coverage that tells the bride and grooms wedding day story completely.
