What a lovely gift! Because I'm a South Florida photographer who shoots many weddings and special events I find myself working at the Boca Raton Resort and Club often. Over the past 16 years I have shot everything from Corporate Events, Weddings, Bat and Bar Mitzvahs, Birthday Parties, Sweet 16s & Corporate Headshot at the Boca Raton Resort. Because I'm highly skilled and dependable it only makes sense that the resort would refer projects to me.
Recently the hotel staff reached out to me in need of staff headshots. Of course I responded that I would be happy to do headshot for the hotel staff. As a photographer who is based in South Florida I get to shoot a large amount to corporate and special event photography projects. Often these photo-shoots include headshots. In my years doing photography I must have shot over 5000 headshots. I have shot headshots for Law Firms, Corporate Executives, Writers, News Reporters, Financial Advisers on and on and on. Needless to say, I'm good at it. So one day in the late afternoon I arrived at Boca Raton Resort and Club ready to take headshots. If course they were thrilled, and as a gift I got a nice meal for myself and my family at Lucca, one of the restaurants inside the resort.
About the cuisine photo in this article. The appetizer photo in this post was one of the dishes served during our dinner at Lucca. If you find yourself dining at Lucca, this is the Lobster Amalfi Seafood and pasta appetizer. Trust me when I say, this dish was a delicious as it looks.
In addition to being an experience wedding and event photographer, I've also been formally trained in food photography. So having a plate for food in front of me that looks this good, you know I'm taking a picture. Armed with only my iPhone I decided to put my skills to use on the fly. Knowing that the key to photographing food is creating lighting that triggers the human hunger response. This is done through lighting. The key is to light the food in such a way that the viewer can see the food clearly yet the food appears to have highlights in shadows in the photo. Using my iPhone and another borrowed phone I was able to shoot this a few seconds. Here is how I shot this. While using my phone to take the picture I used the flashlight from the second phone to create the side lit highlights.
On another note, This was the last meal we had out before the Coronavirus took hold forcing all the South Florida restaurants to close. Given that it appears that this is going to be my last meal in a restaurant for a long time I'm glad it was a good one. Hopefully this extremely unusual situation will pass and everyone will be able to enjoy a wonderful at Lucca.
