Some weddings take place in a ballroom.
Some weddings take place on a beach.
And then there are weddings that break every rule and become unforgettable adventures.
This photograph of beautifully prepared sea bass was taken aboard the Disney Wonder cruise ship, but the story behind the image is far more extraordinary than the meal itself.
I was hired by a couple whose passion was scuba diving. They were adventurous, creative, and determined to celebrate their marriage in a way that reflected who they were. Their wedding began underwater. Wearing scuba gear beneath the ocean's surface, they exchanged vows surrounded by coral reefs, tropical fish, and the quiet beauty of the sea.
Photographing an underwater wedding is unlike anything else in wedding photography. Every movement is slower. Light behaves differently underwater. Communication becomes a matter of hand signals and preparation. Equipment must be carefully protected while still allowing the photographer to capture genuine emotion.
The experience was incredible.
But their celebration did not end there.
Several days later, I was hired to travel with them aboard the Disney Wonder, where family and friends gathered for a second wedding celebration at sea. Throughout the voyage, I documented their adventures, their dinners, the shipboard festivities, and even joined them underwater again at cruise destinations to continue photographing their passion for diving and exploration.
This image of sea bass, elegantly plated and beautifully presented, reminds me of how luxurious and memorable the experience was aboard the ship. Disney is known throughout the world for creating exceptional experiences, and the culinary presentation on the Disney Wonder was no exception. Every meal felt like an event unto itself.
As a photographer, I enjoy capturing these moments because they become part of the complete story. The elegant dinners. The candlelit conversations. The excitement of exploring new destinations. The laughter shared with family and friends. These details are often just as meaningful as the ceremony itself.
Luxury wedding photography is not only about documenting the formal events of the day. It is about preserving an experience. It is about telling a story from beginning to end.
This particular story included an underwater ceremony, a Disney cruise ship, Caribbean adventures, elegant cuisine, and a couple whose love of the ocean shaped every aspect of their celebration.
Very few photographers have the opportunity to document a wedding like this.
Fewer still have the privilege of becoming part of the journey.
Throughout my career, I have photographed weddings in grand hotels, private estates, gardens, beaches, and luxury resorts throughout the United States. Yet some of the most memorable experiences have been the weddings that dared to be different.
This Disney Wonder wedding was one of those experiences.
The sea bass photographed here may seem like a small detail in a much larger story, but years later it still reminds me of an extraordinary couple, their adventurous spirit, and a wedding celebration unlike any other.
Because great wedding photography isn't simply about showing people what happened.
It's about transporting them back to the feeling of being there.
