Sometimes the best photographs happen when you’re willing to get wet.

I captured this image with a GoPro while on a tour in Costa Rica. We had the opportunity to swim in this beautiful natural pool, with a waterfall pouring into the water at one end.

I wanted the photograph to feel like you were actually there—not standing safely on the shore looking at the waterfall, but in the water, swimming toward it. The low perspective puts the viewer almost at water level, surrounded by the turquoise water, spray, rocks, and tropical jungle.

It was one of those situations where the experience itself was every bit as memorable as the photograph.
