There is something timeless and almost magical about wandering through the forests of Vermont. When I captured this image on a quiet path in Stowe, I wanted to create more than just a record of a place — I wanted to give the viewer the feeling of stepping into the woods and walking the trail themselves. The twisting path curves gently into the distance, drawing the eye forward as if inviting you to hike deeper into nature’s embrace.
This photograph was created while I was in Vermont photographing a wedding at a small stone church hidden deep in the forest. Between events, I ventured into the surrounding woods and discovered this winding trail. The mix of fallen leaves, vibrant green pines, and soft filtered light created an atmosphere that was both peaceful and cinematic. It was the kind of setting where you can almost hear the crunch of leaves underfoot and feel the cool mountain air.
As a landscape and scenic photographer, one of my primary goals is to control the way the viewer experiences an image. In this photograph, the lines of the path lead your eye naturally from the foreground into the distance, where the sun opens up and illuminates the trail about a thousand feet ahead. The composition is meant to take you on a journey — not just visually, but emotionally.
From a technical standpoint, the image was captured with a Nikon D3 and a 24mm lens. The settings were a shutter speed of 1/30 of a second, an aperture of f/3.5, and ISO 2500. Because the forest canopy made the scene quite dark, I used a tripod to keep the camera steady and ensure sharpness throughout the frame. The result is a photograph that balances both detail and atmosphere, preserving the mood of that late afternoon walk through the woods.
