Corporate Sports and Celebrity Event Photography in South Florida

Jeff Kolodny with Tim Tebow at a Corporate Leadership Event
For more than 25 years, I’ve had the privilege of photographing some of the most exciting corporate events, charity fundraisers, leadership conferences, and VIP experiences throughout South Florida. One of the unexpected rewards of my career has been the opportunity to meet and photograph many of the world’s most recognizable athletes and celebrities.
Over the years I’ve photographed legendary sports figures including Rob Gronkowski, Tim Tebow, Michael Phelps, Chris Evert, and Peyton Manning. I’ve also had the opportunity to photograph members of the legendary 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team whose incredible victory over the Soviet Union became known as the “Miracle on Ice,” one of the greatest moments in American sports history. Mike Eruzione, who scored the winning goal against the Soviet Union and captained the gold medal team, has remained an inspiring speaker at corporate leadership events for decades.
While many people assume these assignments are simply about photographing celebrities, they’re really about telling the story of the event. Most of these athletes were invited to speak at corporate conferences, executive leadership retreats, fundraising galas, and charity events. Their presentations focused on teamwork, leadership, overcoming adversity, mental toughness, and the habits that helped them become champions. My job is to capture not only the celebrity, but also the interaction between the speaker and the audience, the excitement in the room, and the moments that help tell the complete story of the event.
Every assignment is different. Sometimes I’m photographing an intimate meet-and-greet with company executives. Other times I’m documenting hundreds of guests attending a fundraising gala or awards dinner. I’ve photographed autograph sessions, keynote presentations, golf tournaments, VIP receptions, charity auctions, and behind-the-scenes moments that most attendees never get to see.
Photographing these events requires more than simply recognizing a famous face. It requires anticipation, discretion, excellent timing, and the ability to work professionally around high-profile personalities while never interfering with the experience of the guests. Whether the assignment involves a Hall of Fame athlete, an Olympic champion, or a celebrity guest speaker, my goal is always the same: create photographs that capture both the energy of the event and the personality of the people who make it memorable.

Photographing a Visa-Sponsored Event During Super Bowl XLI
One of the most exciting weeks to photograph corporate events in South Florida is Super Bowl week. While football fans are focused on the game, businesses, sponsors, and charities are busy hosting executive receptions, client appreciation events, VIP parties, and fundraising activities throughout the region.
During Super Bowl XLI in Miami, I was hired to photograph a Visa-sponsored corporate event that brought together clients, guests, and former NFL players for an evening of entertainment and networking. My assignment wasn’t simply to photograph famous athletes. It was to document the entire experience—from guests arriving and enjoying the event to autograph sessions, casino-style gaming, candid interactions, and the atmosphere that made the evening memorable.
One of the things I’ve always enjoyed about corporate event photography is that every assignment is different. One week I might be photographing a leadership conference featuring a world-class athlete. The next week I’m documenting a corporate awards banquet or a charity gala. During Super Bowl week, those worlds often come together as businesses invite legendary athletes to meet clients, sign memorabilia, and share stories from their careers.
I’ll admit something that usually surprises people—I don’t always know who every athlete is. My focus has never been on collecting autographs or meeting celebrities. My job is to create great photographs for my clients. While other people are waiting in line to have a football signed, I’m concentrating on lighting, composition, expressions, and making sure I don’t miss the moments that matter.
Ironically, I still have a football signed by several former NFL players from that event. Even today, I couldn’t tell you every signature that’s on it. To me, it’s less about who signed the football and more about remembering another successful assignment and another client who trusted me to capture an unforgettable evening.
Those experiences are one of the reasons I enjoy corporate event photography so much. Every event introduces me to new people, new challenges, and opportunities to document moments that can’t be recreated. Whether the guest speaker is a championship athlete, a business leader, or a celebrity, my goal is always the same: tell the story of the event through photographs that my clients will value long after the evening is over.
Photographing Famous Athletes Is About the Assignment, Not the Celebrity
People often ask me what it’s like photographing famous athletes and celebrities. The truth is, once I pick up my camera, they become my subject, just like anyone else I’m photographing. My attention shifts to the lighting, the background, the expression, and the moment. I’m not thinking about how many touchdowns someone scored or how many Olympic medals they won. I’m thinking about creating the best possible photograph for my client. That’s what I was hired to do, and that’s always been my focus.
Over the years, I’ve photographed Hall of Fame athletes, Olympic champions, professional football players, championship golfers, and other well-known sports personalities. While I certainly respect what they’ve accomplished, I don’t approach them as a fan asking for an autograph. I approach them as a professional photographer whose responsibility is to document the event, tell the story, and make my client look great.
Famous people may be part of the assignment, but they’re never the assignment itself. My responsibility is to capture the event, the atmosphere, the interactions, and the moments my client hired me to preserve.
Photographing Speakers Without Becoming a Distraction
One of the biggest challenges in Corporate Sports Event Photography is capturing genuine expressions while a speaker is presenting. Whether it’s an athlete sharing a personal story, a coach leading a discussion, or an executive delivering a keynote, the goal is always the same: create photographs that feel authentic without interrupting the moment.
When I’m photographing speakers, I don’t want them thinking about me. I want them focused on their audience.
That’s why I almost always use bounce flash, a lighting technique I learned years ago from legendary wedding photographer Joe Buissink.
People are constantly asking me why my flash is pointed at the ceiling or toward a nearby wall instead of directly at the person I’m photographing.
I always answer with this simple analogy.
Imagine watering someone with a garden hose.
Would it be more pleasant if you aimed the hose directly at their face?
Or would it feel better if you sprayed the water against a wall first, letting it come back as a soft, gentle mist?
Lighting works exactly the same way.
When a flash is fired directly at a speaker, the light is harsh, the shadows are stronger, and the speaker immediately notices the flash. It can become distracting, especially during an important presentation.
By bouncing the flash off a ceiling or wall, the entire room becomes my light source. The light wraps naturally around the speaker’s face, producing softer shadows and much more flattering skin tones. Even better, most speakers barely realize the flash has fired, allowing them to remain completely engaged with their audience.

The photographs above are good examples of this approach. Notice the natural facial expressions, relaxed body language, and clean, professional lighting. These moments happened in real time while the speakers interacted with the audience—not because they stopped to pose for the camera.
Over the years I’ve found that the less people notice the photographer, the more genuine the photographs become. That’s especially important during corporate meetings, sports conferences, award ceremonies, and motivational presentations where authentic emotion tells the story far better than staged poses ever could.
For me, great Corporate Sports Event Photography isn’t just about documenting who was there. It’s about capturing confidence, personality, and those fleeting expressions that communicate the energy of the event while allowing the speakers to do what they came to do—connect with their audience.

Charity Casino Night at a Corporate Sports Event
One of my favorite aspects of Corporate Sports Event Photography is capturing the moments between the scheduled activities. Those unscripted interactions often tell the real story of the event.
This corporate charity event featured a casino night where guests had the opportunity to play blackjack and other casino games alongside professional football players. While the games created plenty of excitement, the athletes never lost sight of why they were there—to support a great cause and connect with the guests.
Throughout the evening, they happily signed photographs, mini footballs, jerseys, and just about anything fans placed in front of them. Some young fans even asked them to autograph their arms, creating memories they’ll never forget.
As an event photographer, my job is to anticipate these interactions without interrupting them. Genuine smiles, focused expressions at the gaming tables, and heartfelt conversations often happen in an instant. Being ready for those moments allows me to tell the complete story of the event—from the excitement of the casino floor to the personal connections between athletes and their fans.
These authentic moments are what transform event coverage into a visual story that clients can relive long after the evening has ended.
Behind the Scenes at a Corporate Sports Event
One of my favorite moments from this event happened before the doors even opened. Rob Gronkowski sat down with a stack of footballs and personally signed each one that would later be given to guests attending the corporate event in Boca Raton.
These behind-the-scenes moments are just as important as the keynote presentations and celebrity appearances because they tell the complete story of the event. They show the preparation, the interaction, and the attention to detail that make a corporate event memorable for everyone involved.
Behind the Scenes with Rob Gronkowski
One of the highlights of this Boca Raton corporate event happened before the guests even entered the ballroom. Rob Gronkowski arrived early and sat down with a mountain of footballs, personally autographing each one for attendees. It was a small gesture that made a lasting impression and gave every guest a unique keepsake from the evening.
I always enjoy photographing these behind-the-scenes moments because they reveal a side of an event that most guests never see. While everyone remembers the keynote presentation, it’s often these quiet moments of preparation that tell the complete story.
I even managed to step in front of the camera for one photograph while Gronk was signing footballs!

Peyton Manning at a South Florida Corporate Event
One of the most rewarding aspects of Corporate Sports Event Photography is capturing an experience that extends far beyond the photographs themselves.
For this exclusive investment company event, every guest had the opportunity to meet Peyton Manning and have a professional portrait taken with one of football’s greatest quarterbacks. Rather than simply handing out digital files after the event, the client wanted to create something truly memorable.
While everyone enjoyed dinner with Peyton Manning in an adjacent ballroom, my team quietly transformed the event space into a production studio. Using professional dye-sublimation printers, we printed every portrait on-site, carefully mounted each photograph into an elegant crystal frame, and had them ready before the evening concluded.
By the time guests left, they weren’t just taking home memories—they were leaving with a professionally framed portrait featuring themselves alongside Peyton Manning.
These are the details that elevate a corporate event from ordinary to extraordinary. As a corporate event photographer, I don’t simply document the evening; I work closely with meeting planners and event organizers to create an experience that attendees will remember long after the event has ended.
One of the biggest challenges of on-site event printing is reliability. There are no second chances when hundreds of guests are waiting for their photographs.
To ensure everything runs smoothly, I use two identical professional dye-sublimation printers that were originally upgraded for use by Disney. These heavy-duty printers were designed to withstand the demanding environments of Disney Cruise Line ships and Disney theme parks, where dependable, high-volume printing is essential.
Having two matching printers provides both speed and redundancy. If one printer were ever to experience an issue, the second is ready to continue printing without interrupting the event. It’s one of those behind-the-scenes details that guests never notice—but event planners certainly appreciate.
While everyone enjoyed dinner with Peyton Manning, my team worked behind the scenes printing each guest’s portrait, carefully placing every photograph into an elegant crystal frame. By the end of the evening, every attendee left with a professionally presented keepsake featuring themselves with one of football’s greatest quarterbacks.
That’s the kind of experience that transforms a simple photo opportunity into a lasting memory.
